Product Introduction & Main Application
Arnico’s Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) is a high-performance binder created by blending high-quality petroleum bitumen with thermoplastic elastomers, primarily Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS), at controlled high-shear temperatures. This modification significantly enhances the bitumen’s rheological properties, providing superior resistance to permanent deformation (rutting) at high temperatures and cracking at low temperatures. PMB is the foundation for constructing long-life, durable pavements in high-traffic corridors and extreme climates.

3. Features & Benefits
Extreme Rutting Resistance: The polymer network provides high stiffness and elasticity, preventing the formation of wheel-track depressions under heavy and slow-moving traffic.
Superior Low-Temperature Flexibility: Dramatically reduces thermal stress cracking, a common failure in rigid pavements during cold winters.
Extended Fatigue Life: Exhibits superior resistance to repetitive loading, stopping the propagation of micro-cracks into alligator cracking and potholes.
Strong Aggregate Adhesion: Provides a tough, durable bond with mineral aggregates, minimizing surface raveling and moisture-induced stripping.
Long-Term Cost Savings: Doubles the design life of an asphalt overlay compared to conventional bitumen, saving significantly on maintenance and traffic disruption costs.
4. Industrial Applications
Highways & Freeways: Wearing and binder courses for heavy traffic volume corridors.
Airport Runways & Aprons: High-shear resistance for the immense load and pressure of aircraft landing gear.
Bridges & Viaducts: Waterproofing membranes and flexible asphalt layers that move with the bridge structure.
Container Terminals & Bus Depots: Pavements resistant to standing loads, fuel spillage, and sharp turning maneuvers.
5. Safety & Handling
MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): The product is handled hot (170-180°C). Risk of severe thermal burns. The complete MSDS is available for download.
Storage Conditions: Must be stored in insulated, heated, and stirred tanks under controlled temperature to prevent polymer segregation.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Full-face shield, aluminized heat-resistant gloves, and protective clothing are mandatory during sampling and loading operations.
6. Quality Assurance & COA
Arnico PMB is manufactured to AASHTO M320 and EN 14023 standards. Each shipment includes a Certificate of Analysis (COA) with a complete Performance Grade (PG) grading report, proving the binder’s performance limits.
