D6 Virgin Fuel Oil (Bunker Fuel / Residual Fuel Oil)

D6 Bunker Fuel

“The deep-sea fuel that moves global trade: maximum economy for the world’s largest engines.” Arnico’s D6 is the high-viscosity, residual bunker fuel designed for the colossal two-stroke engines that power the global shipping fleet. Also known as Bunker C, this is the ultimate economy fuel for maritime transport, delivering reliable power across vast oceans. Our D6, available in high and low-sulfur grades, provides the raw, cost-effective energy that underpins international commerce.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s D6, also known internationally as Residual Fuel Oil or Bunker C, is an extremely heavy, high-viscosity residual fuel used primarily in the large, slow-speed engines of massive ocean-going vessels. This fuel is based on vacuum distillation residue diluted with heavy cutter stocks and is the standard, economical option for the international commercial shipping industry.

2. Technical Specifications

Technical Parameter Standard Bunker Grade (RMG 380) Max Viscosity Grade (RMK 700) Unit

Total Sulfur ≤ 3.5 (High S) / ≤ 0.5 (Low S) ≤ 3.5 %
Pour Point ≤ +30 ≤ +30 °C
Flash Point ≥ 60 ≥ 60 °C
Water & Sediment ≤ 0.5 ≤ 1.0 % vol
Ash Content ≤ 0.10 ≤ 0.15 %

3. Features & Benefits

  • The Most Economical Maritime Fuel: Minimizes cost per ton-mile for cargo transport.

  • Compatibility with Large Two-Stroke Engines: Designed for combustion in the massive cylinders of main ship engines (e.g., MAN B&W and Wärtsilä).

  • Low Sulfur Grade (LSFO): Compliance with the newer IMO 2020 regulations for reducing sulfur oxide emissions in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).

  • Standard Viscosity Management: After heating to 120-130°C, it reaches the ideal injection viscosity (10-15 cSt).

4. Industrial Applications

  • Oceanic Commercial Shipping: The primary fuel for large container ships, oil tankers, and bulk carriers.

  • Coastal Power Plants: Fuel for large boilers in some regions.

  • Thermal Desalination Plants: Supplying thermal energy for multi-stage flash (MSF/MED) distillation processes.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This material is almost solid at room temperature. Its vapors contain H₂S and are lethal. The Arnico MSDS must be studied with extreme care.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in heated, recirculating tanks at a minimum temperature of 50°C. Water entry (even rainwater) must be violently prevented.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): When sampling and inspecting tanks, the use of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and full chemical protective clothing is mandatory.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

Arnico D6 shipments are provided with a Certificate of Quality (COQ) in accordance with the ISO 8217 standard.

Technical documents for the product D6 Bunker Fuel including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
