Introduction
Arnica Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC) is a polymeric coagulant based on aluminum with the formula [Al₂(OH)ₙCl₆₋ₙ]m, offering significantly higher efficiency than simple aluminum salts like alum. It is designed for the rapid removal of suspended solids, turbidity, and organic matter from drinking water, and municipal and industrial wastewater.
2. Technical Specifications
| Parameter | Drinking Water Grade | Industrial Grade | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Light Yellow Powder | Dark Yellow Powder | – |
| Aluminum Oxide (Al₂O₃) | ≥ 30 | ≥ 28 | % |
| Basicity | 70 – 85 | 40 – 85 | % |
| Water Insoluble | ≤ 0.5 | ≤ 1.5 | % |
| pH (1% Solution) | 3.5 – 5.0 | 3.5 – 5.0 | – |
3. Features & Benefits
Wide pH Range Performance: Highly effective in a pH range of 5-9 without the need for precise pH adjustment, unlike alum.
Rapid & Dense Floc Formation: Ultra-fast settling velocity reduces retention time in sedimentation basins.
Reduced Sludge Volume: Produces less sludge with easier dewaterability compared to traditional coagulants.
Low-Temperature Performance: Maintains flawless performance in cold seasons when other coagulants lose efficiency.
4. Industrial Applications
Drinking Water Treatment Plants: Clarification of raw water and removal of seasonal turbidity.
Paper Industry: Used as a retention aid and to improve paper strength.
Textile Industry: Removal of chemical dyes from dyeing wastewater.
Industrial Wastewater Treatment: Removal of heavy metals, oil & grease, and suspended solids.
5. Safety & Handling
MSDS: The material safety data sheet is available on the Arnica website and must be read before use.
Storage: Store in acid- and moisture-resistant containers in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight. The product is hygroscopic; keep packaging tightly sealed.
Protective Equipment: Contact with skin and eyes causes irritation. The use of rubber gloves, protective clothing, and safety goggles is mandatory.
6. Quality Assurance & COA
All Arnica PAC shipments are provided with a valid Certificate of Analysis (COA), guaranteeing the precise Al₂O₃ percentage and basicity of the product.
