Ethanolamines (MEA, DEA, TEA)

Ethanolamines

“The multifunctional amine family: scrubbing gas, building soap, and grinding cement.” Arnico’s Ethanolamines are the versatile, reactive nitrogen compounds that silently power some of the world’s largest industries. From Monoethanolamine (MEA) that sweetens natural gas by stripping out acid gases, to Triethanolamine (TEA) that emulsifies the finest cosmetics and aids in cement grinding, our high-purity MEA, DEA, and TEA are a family of essential tools for gas processors, formulators, and engineers. They are the chemical bridges between raw gas, clean surfaces, and durable materials.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Ethanolamines, including Monoethanolamine (MEA), Diethanolamine (DEA), and Triethanolamine (TEA), are clear, viscous liquids with a mild ammoniacal odor, produced from the reaction of ethylene oxide with ammonia. This versatile chemical family is used as an absorbent for acid gases (CO₂ and H₂S) in natural gas sweetening, as an emulsifier in detergents and cement, and as a primary intermediate in the production of herbicides and industrial cleaners.

3. Features & Benefits

  • Selective Acid Gas Absorption (MEA): The gold standard for removing CO₂ and H₂S from natural gas, with a high reaction rate and excellent absorption capacity.

  • Powerful Emulsifier & Dispersant (DEA/TEA): Creates stable emulsions in detergents, soluble oils, and personal care products.

  • pH Regulator & Mild Base (TEA): Controls acidity in cosmetic creams and neutralizes fatty acids without causing skin damage.

  • Versatile Raw Material: The dual amine and alcohol structure allows for reactivity with acids, aldehydes, and epoxides.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Refineries & Petrochemicals: A solvent in amine gas sweetening units.

  • Detergent & Personal Care Industry: A builder for amphoteric surfactants and a thickener for shampoos and liquid soaps.

  • Agriculture: A raw material in the production of glyphosate herbicide and other pesticides.

  • Cement & Concrete: A grinding aid and an enhancer for the early strength of cement.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): These substances are alkaline, corrosive, and irritants to the skin and eyes. MEA is more toxic. The Arnico MSDS file must be obtained.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in 316 stainless steel or carbon steel tanks, sealed, away from moisture and atmospheric CO₂. They slowly absorb CO₂.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The use of neoprene gloves, chemical goggles, and a respirator is mandatory when working with the heated product.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

Arnico Ethanolamine shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) with a precise GC analysis.

Technical documents for the product Ethanolamines including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
