Acetaldehyde (High Purity Grade)

Acetaldehyde

“The sharp, fast-reacting C2 building block: the aldehyde behind flavors, fragrances, and acetic acid.” Arnico’s Acetaldehyde is the highly reactive, volatile intermediate at the heart of countless chemical syntheses. With its extremely active carbonyl group, it is the premier starting material for producing acetic acid, pyridine, and pentaerythritol. For the flavor and fragrance industry, it provides the crisp, fresh, green-apple notes that define countless food and perfume formulations. It’s a small molecule with a huge impact on chemistry and our senses.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Acetaldehyde is a clear, colorless, highly volatile, and flammable liquid with a pungent, fruity odor, recognized as a key chemical intermediate in organic synthesis. This substance, obtained from the oxidation of ethylene (the Wacker process), is the primary raw material for the production of acetic acid, pyridine, pentaerythritol, and aldehyde-based resins, with vital applications in the flavor and fragrance industries.

3. Features & Benefits

  • Extremely High Reactivity: The highly active carbonyl group performs aldol, condensation, and reduction reactions with excellent efficiency.

  • High Synthetic Purity (High Purity Grade): Contains minimal acid and water, preventing unwanted side reactions in sensitive pharmaceutical syntheses.

  • Primary Precursor for Acetic Acid: The most economical route for producing one of the world’s most widely consumed organic acids.

  • Natural Flavoring Agent: Creates green, fruity notes in the formulation of perfumes and food-grade essences.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Chemical Industry: The production of acetic acid, acetates, and acetic anhydride.

  • Pharmaceutical & Dye Industry: A raw material in the synthesis of pyridine, pentaerythritol, and organic pigments.

  • Food & Fragrance Industry: A fruity (green apple) flavoring in beverages and perfumes.

  • Polymer Industry: A cross-linking agent in urea-formaldehyde and phenolic resins.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This liquid is extremely flammable (Flash Point ≈ -39°C), volatile, and toxic. Inhalation is a severe lung irritant and it is a suspected carcinogen. The Arnico MSDS is mandatory.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in nitrogen-pressurized tanks in a refrigerated environment (below 10°C), away from sparks, heat, and alkaline and oxidizing materials. Equipment must be completely explosion-proof.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The use of a full-face respirator with an AX and formaldehyde-specific filter, Viton gloves, and anti-static clothing is mandatory.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

Arnico Acetaldehyde shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) with a precise GC purity analysis.
