Product Introduction & Main Application
Arnico’s C10 Aromatics are a heavy, naphthalene-rich petroleum fraction with carbon numbers centered around 10 and higher. It is a pale yellow to yellow liquid at elevated temperatures, but may partially crystallize at ambient conditions due to the high naphthalene content. It is a crucial feedstock for phthalic anhydride production, a carbon black oil for thermal carbon black processes, and a valuable component in specialty inks and extender oils.

3. Features & Benefits
Phthalic Anhydride Precursor: The naphthalene-rich grade offers an exceptional yield when used as a feedstock in fixed-bed or fluid-bed phthalic anhydride reactors.
High Carbon Black Yield: The dense aromatic structure provides an excellent Carbon Black Oil (CBO) feedstock for the furnace process.
Powerful Solvent Tail: The naphthalene-depleted grade remains liquid at low temperatures and acts as an ultra-slow-evaporating solvent for high-build coatings and printing inks.
Co-Product Value: Facilitates the recovery and sale of pure naphthalene crystals through simple distillation, adding an additional value stream for chemical processors.
4. Industrial Applications
Chemical Intermediate: The primary feedstock for the catalytic oxidation to Phthalic Anhydride (PA), a critical component in plasticizers (DOP, DINP).
Carbon Black Production: A high-quality feedstock for producing large particle, low-structure thermal blacks used in mechanical rubber goods.
Specialized Inks & Resins: An extender and deep-clean solvent for offset printing inks requiring high pigment-wetting properties.
Plasticizer Manufacturing: Alkylation of naphthalene to produce naphthalene sulfonate superplasticizers for high-strength concrete.
5. Safety & Handling
MSDS: This product is hazardous. It contains naphthalene, which is a toxic and combustible solid. Full MSDS is available.
Storage Conditions: Must be stored in heated, insulated tanks (55-70°C) to prevent solidification and crystal blockage of lines. Ensure vapor space is vented.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Full vapor respirator, chemical goggles, and full-body protection are mandatory. Naphthalene is toxic if inhaled and is a suspected carcinogen.
6. Quality Assurance & COA
Arnico supplies a comprehensive Certificate of Analysis (COA) with every batch, detailing naphthalene content, distillation curve, and aromatic purity, providing the precise composition data needed for optimizing your chemical process.
