Description More

Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Sodium Silicate, commonly known as water glass, is a viscous, clear-to-slightly-hazy inorganic chemical solution with the formula Na₂O·xSiO₂. It is produced in a range of molar ratios (SiO₂:Na₂O from 2.0 to 3.3) to suit various industrial needs. Its primary functions include serving as a high-temperature adhesive, an alkaline detergent builder, a binder in foundry molds, and a cementitious sealant and densifier for concrete and soil stabilization.

3. Features & Benefits

  • Exceptional Binding Strength: Creates strong, rigid bonds for paper, corrugated cardboard, and refractory cements.

  • High Alkalinity: Acts as a powerful pH buffer and saponifying agent, making it an effective replacement for phosphates in industrial and laundry detergents.

  • Concrete Densification: Reacts with free lime (calcium hydroxide) in concrete to form calcium-silicate-hydrate (C-S-H), permanently hardening and dust-proofing surfaces.

  • Corrosion Inhibition: Forms a thin, protective passivating film on metal surfaces in water treatment and cooling systems.

  • Chemical Inertness: Once cured, it is resistant to heat (up to 1100°C), acids, and organic solvents, making it ideal for refractory applications.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Detergent & Cleaning Products: A key raw material in laundry powders, automatic dishwasher detergents, and industrial degreasers.

  • Corrugated Board & Packaging: High-speed laminating adhesive for paper and cardboard.

  • Foundry & Investment Casting: A binder for sand to create precision molds for metal casting.

  • Construction: Concrete sealer, soil grouting for stabilization, and tile adhesive additive.

  • Water Treatment: A corrosion inhibitor and sequestering agent for municipal water systems.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS: This product is a strong alkaline liquid. Full MSDS is available upon request from Arnico support.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in closed HDPE or stainless steel (SS316) containers. Keep away from acids and aluminum. Prevent freezing (crystallizes below 5°C); gently warm to redissolve.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Causes severe eye and skin irritation. The use of chemical splash goggles, rubber gloves, and a protective apron is mandatory.

6. Quality Assurance & COA
