Polypropylene Block Copolymer (PPC / Impact Copolymer)

PPC

“The sub-zero tough thermoplastic: the high-impact, durable PP for automotive bumpers and heavy-duty crates.” Arnico’s Polypropylene Block Copolymer (PPC), also known as Impact Copolymer, is the ultra-tough, opaque polypropylene engineered for applications where resistance to impact is the ultimate test. Produced by a two-stage polymerization process, it embeds a soft, energy-absorbing ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) phase within a rigid homopolymer matrix. This unique structure delivers outstanding toughness, even at sub-zero temperatures, making it the ideal material for car bumpers that must survive minor collisions, durable luggage, and heavy-duty industrial crates.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Polypropylene Block Copolymer (PPC), or Impact Copolymer, is an opaque, exceptionally impact-resistant copolymer produced by a two-stage polymerization of propylene, followed by the addition of an ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) phase within the PPH matrix. This structure dramatically increases impact resistance, even down to -30°C, making it the ideal material for automotive bumpers, battery cases, durable household appliance parts, and industrial transport crates.

3. Features & Benefits

  • Extraordinary Impact Resistance, Even in Sub-Zero Cold: Prevents car bumpers from shattering in minor accidents and winter conditions.

  • An Ideal Balance of Stiffness & Toughness: The homopolymer phase provides strength, while the rubbery phase provides energy absorption.

  • Chemical & Corrosion Resistance: Unaffected by battery acid and road salts.

  • Good Paintability & Adhesion: Accepts paints and coatings for automotive body parts.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Automotive Industry: Front and rear bumpers, dashboards, interior door trims, and battery cases.

  • Household Appliances: Washing machine bodies and heavy-duty plastic containers.

  • Industrial Packaging: Foldable crates and plastic pallets.

  • Construction & Pipe Parts: Impact-resistant fittings.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): The material is non-toxic and safe. Propylene and ethylene vapors are released at melt temperatures. The Arnico MSDS file must be obtained.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in 25kg bags in a dry, cool warehouse.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Gloves for handling hot injection-molded parts.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

Arnico PPC shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) detailing the MFI and Izod Impact values at both 23°C and -20°C

Technical documents for the product PPC including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
