Aniline (MDI Grade & High Purity Grade)

Aniline

“The primary aromatic amine: the essential monomer for MDI and the dye that colors the world.” Arnico’s Aniline is the high-purity, primary aromatic amine that is a strategic raw material at the heart of the polyurethane and textile industries. As the primary precursor for Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI), it is the starting point for the rigid and flexible foams that insulate and comfort our world. Its reactive amine group also makes it the essential building block for synthesizing a vast spectrum of vibrant dyes, rubber chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. It’s a single molecule with the power to build, color, and heal.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Aniline is a colorless to pale yellow, oily liquid with a characteristic fishy odor, produced from the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene. This basic aromatic amine is the primary and strategic raw material for the production of Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI), the key raw material for polyurethane foams, and is also used in the synthesis of textile dyes, synthetic rubbers, and pharmaceutical intermediates.

2. Technical Specifications

3. Features & Benefits

  • The Main MDI Precursor: Reacts with formaldehyde to produce MDA, which is then phosgenated to MDI at the highest yield.

  • Guaranteed Purity for Synthesis: Free from nitrobenzene, which causes contamination and color in downstream reactions.

  • Multiple Reactivity: The active amine group is capable of diazotization (for azo dye production), alkylation, and acylation.

  • Stability Against Oxidation: High-purity grades are stabilized with antioxidants to prevent color change.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Polyurethane Industry: Over 85% of the world’s aniline is used as the raw material for MDI production.

  • Dye & Textile Industry: The synthesis of azo pigments, indigo, and dyeing intermediates.

  • Rubber Industry: The production of sulfur-curing accelerators (MBT, MBTS).

  • Pharmaceutical & Chemical Industry: The synthesis of paracetamol and herbicides.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This substance is highly toxic! It is absorbed through the skin and causes methemoglobinemia (blood poisoning). The Arnico MSDS is vital for safe handling.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in stainless steel or carbon steel tanks, under a nitrogen blanket, in a cool, dark environment, away from acids and oxidizers.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Full solvent-resistant clothing (Tychem), Viton gloves, a respirator with an A-type filter, and an emergency shower are required.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

Arnico Aniline shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) detailing the GC purity and nitrobenzene content.

Technical documents for the product Aniline including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
