Heavy End (Vacuum Residue / Bitumen Feedstock)

Heavy End

“The bottom of the barrel, top value: the heavy petroleum residue that builds roads and fires industry.” Arnico’s Heavy End is the strategic, high-value residual fraction from the crude oil distillation process, composed of the heaviest, most complex hydrocarbon molecules. Far from being a waste product, it is the essential feedstock for producing high-quality bitumen—the binder that paves the world’s highways—and for feeding cokers to produce petroleum coke and other high-value products. For industries that demand the ultimate in energy density and material strength, our Heavy End is the fundamental building block.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Heavy End is a residual product from the atmospheric and vacuum distillation of crude oil, consisting of the heaviest hydrocarbon molecules. This valuable material is the primary and vital feedstock for producing Bitumen for the road construction and waterproofing industries, and the feed for Coker units to produce petroleum coke and other heavy materials.

3. Features & Benefits

  • Rich Source of Asphaltenes & Resins: Ideal for producing bitumen with controlled penetration and softening point, and of excellent road-paving quality.

  • Suitable Heating Value for Furnaces: A heavy, high-energy fuel for supplying heat in industrial furnaces.

  • A Good Coker Feedstock: Enables the production of high-value added petroleum coke for the aluminum and steel industries.

  • Stable in Blending: The capacity to be blended with lighter cuts to produce fuel oil and bunker fuel.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Road Construction & Building: The primary raw material for the production of bitumen and asphalt.

  • Refineries: The feed for Delayed Coker and Visbreaker units.

  • Industrial Fuel: The production of mazut and fuel oil for power plants and ships.

  • Chemical Industry: A source for the production of sulfur and rare metals like vanadium.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): A heavy, sticky, and flammable material at high temperatures. Its hot vapors are irritating and toxic. The Arnico MSDS file must be obtained.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in heated tanks with steam coils and insulation, at a temperature of 80-120°C to maintain pumpability and prevent solidification.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Heat-resistant clothing and gloves, goggles, and a face shield are required when working with the hot product.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

Arnico Heavy End shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) detailing the API gravity, viscosity, and sulfur percentage.

Technical documents for the product Heavy End including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
