Carbon Monoxide (CO - Chemical & Research Grade)

Carbon Monoxide

“The pure C1 chemistry building block: the silent, powerful molecule behind acetic acid, methanol, and metal refining.” Arnico’s Carbon Monoxide (CO) is the high-purity, odorless, and highly strategic gas that forms the very foundation of C1 chemistry. It is the invisible but essential reactant in the production of mega-volume chemicals like acetic acid and methanol, and a powerful reducing agent in the metallurgical industry. Our chemical and ultra-high-purity research grades ensure the consistent, poison-free performance necessary for sensitive catalysts and advanced scientific analysis.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, highly toxic, and flammable gas, produced from the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons or coal gasification. This strategic industrial gas is a vital building block (C1 Chemistry) in the synthesis of many large-volume chemicals, including methanol, acetic acid, phosgene, and polycarbonates, and is also used in metallurgy for the reduction of iron ore.

2. Technical Specifications

Technical Parameter Chemical Synthesis Grade Research Grade Unit
Purity (CO) ≥ 99.5 ≥ 99.997 %
Nitrogen (N₂) ≤ 3000 ≤ 10 ppm
Hydrogen (H₂) ≤ 1000 ≤ 5 ppm
Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) ≤ 200 ≤ 1 ppm
Oxygen (O₂) ≤ 50 ≤ 2 ppm
Methane (CH₄) ≤ 1500 ≤ 5 ppm
Moisture (H₂O) ≤ 10 ≤ 1 ppm

3. Features & Benefits

  • Multiple Reactivity: The ability to participate in carbonylation (acetic acid production), hydroformylation, and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactions.

  • A Strong Reducing Agent (Metallurgy): Efficiently removes oxygen from iron ore in a blast furnace.

  • A Pure Source of Carbon: A simple and stable molecular structure for C1 chemistry.

  • Calibration Gas: Ultra-high-purity cylinders are available for precise instrumental analysis in laboratories.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Petrochemical Industry: The production of methanol, acetic acid, dimethyl carbonate, and phosgene.

  • Metallurgy & Steel: A reducing agent in the blast furnace for iron smelting.

  • Pharmaceutical Industry: A raw material in the carbonylation synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds.

  • Food Industry (Meat Packaging): Creates an attractive red color by reacting with myoglobin.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This gas is extremely toxic (a chemical asphyxiant, colorless and odorless), flammable, and explosive. The Arnico MSDS is vital.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in high-pressure cylinders in a cool, extremely well-ventilated environment, away from heat and oxidizers. Continuous CO monitoring systems and emergency escape respirators are mandatory.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The use of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for any operation is mandatory.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

Arnico CO shipments are supplied with a Certificate of Analysis (COA).

Technical documents for the product Carbon Monoxide including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
