Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) is a linear, water-soluble polyether produced by the addition polymerization of ethylene oxide onto water or ethylene glycol. Depending on its molecular weight (from 200 to 20,000 Daltons), this versatile polymer is supplied as a clear, viscous liquid to a solid, waxy material, and is used as a humectant, lubricant, a pharmaceutical carrier in tablets and suppositories, and a base for cosmetic and personal care ointments.

3. Features & Benefits

  • Complete Water & Solvent Solubility: The polyether chain provides clear solubility in water, alcohol, and glycerin.

  • Very Low Toxicity & Pharmaceutical Safety (GRAS): Has FDA and Pharmacopoeia approvals for oral, injectable, and topical use.

  • Wide Spectrum of Viscosity & Hardness: From a thin liquid (PEG 200) to a hard wax (PEG 6000), covering the needs of any formulation.

  • Humectancy & Softening: Absorbs and retains moisture, keeping skin soft and supple, and preventing products from drying out.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Pharmaceutical Industry: A suppository base, tablet lubricant, injectable solvent, and controlled-release agent.

  • Cosmetics & Personal Care: A humectant in creams, toothpaste, and shampoos.

  • Chemical & Ceramics Industry: A mold lubricant and a binder in ceramic pastes.

  • Food Industry: An antifoaming agent, sweetener, and humectant.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This substance is non-toxic and safe. High molecular weight PEG may cause skin sensitivity in some individuals. The Arnico MSDS file is available.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in sealed containers in a dry, cool place. Keep away from direct sunlight and high heat. Liquid grades are hygroscopic.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): When handling hot material, the use of gloves and safety goggles is recommended.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

All Arnico PEG shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) detailing the molecular weight distribution curve (GPC) and hydroxyl value
