Argon Gas (Industrial & Ultra-High Purity Grades)

Argon

“The perfect inert shield: the noble gas that protects welds, illuminates bulbs, and insulates the future.” Arnico’s Argon is the entirely inert, noble gas that provides a perfect, protective atmosphere for the world’s most demanding industrial and scientific processes. Sourced from the air we breathe, it forms the essential shielding gas for precision TIG and MIG welding, the fill gas for energy-efficient double-glazed windows, and the pure carrier gas for cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing. For any process where chemical reactions are the enemy, our argon is the silent, impenetrable guardian.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Argon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and completely inert noble gas, constituting about 1% of the earth’s atmosphere, produced by the cryogenic distillation of liquid air. Heavier than air, this gas’s absolute chemical inertness, low thermal conductivity, and easy ionization make it vital as a shielding gas in TIG and MIG welding, a filler for incandescent and fluorescent lamps, and an inert atmosphere in metallurgy and electronics.

2. Technical Specifications

Technical Parameter Industrial / Welding Grade Ultra-High Purity Grade (UHP 5.0 / 99.999%) Unit
Purity (Ar) ≥ 99.997 ≥ 99.999 %
Nitrogen (N₂) ≤ 20 ≤ 5 ppm
Oxygen (O₂) ≤ 5 ≤ 1 ppm
Moisture (H₂O) ≤ 5 ≤ 2 ppm
Hydrocarbons (as CH₄) ≤ 2 ≤ 0.5 ppm
Hydrogen (H₂) ≤ 2 ≤ 1 ppm
Dew Point ≤ -65 ≤ -76 °C

3. Features & Benefits

  • Absolute Chemical Inertness: Prevents oxidation and nitridation of the molten metal in welding, creating a clean, porosity-free weld.

  • Ultra-High Purity (UHP): Suitable for sensitive instrumental analysis like ICP-MS and gas chromatography, requiring a carrier gas free from impurities.

  • Excellent Thermal Insulation: Used to fill the space in double and triple-glazed windows, improving the thermal insulation of buildings.

  • Protection in Metallurgy: Creates an inert atmosphere in melting furnaces and the processing of reactive metal powders like titanium and aluminum.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Welding: The primary shielding gas in TIG welding (pure argon) and a component in MIG welding mixtures.

  • Electronics & Semiconductor Industry: A carrier and plasma gas in the production of silicon chips.

  • Metallurgy & Foundry: Melt stirring and a protective gas in AOD furnaces.

  • Glass Manufacturing: Injection between the panes of double-glazed and Low-E windows.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This gas is non-toxic and non-flammable, but it is an asphyxiant (displaces oxygen). The gas is stored under high pressure. The Arnico MSDS file is available.

  • Storage Conditions: Cylinders must be stored in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated area, away from heat and sparks, and secured in an upright position. Avoid confined and low-lying spaces.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): When moving cylinders, the use of safety shoes and leather gloves is recommended.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

Arnico Argon shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and a datasheet confirming compliance with the purity grade
