Activated Carbon (Powdered & Granular Grades)

Activated Carbon

“The ultimate purification matrix: a universe of microscopic pores, trapping impurities at the molecular level.” Arnico’s Activated Carbon is an adsorption powerhouse with an exceptionally high internal surface area, engineered for maximum purification efficiency. From making drinking water safe and crystal clear to recovering precious metals and decolorizing pharmaceuticals, our diverse grades of PAC and GAC provide the precise pore structure for your specific separation challenge. It’s not just filtration; it’s advanced molecular entrapment.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Activated Carbon is a high-porosity carbonaceous adsorbent with an extremely high surface area (up to 1200 m²/g), produced from raw materials like coconut shell, coal, and wood through steam or chemical activation processes. Serving as a powerful filter, this product is used for removing organic pollutants, chlorine, odor, color, and heavy metals from water, air, and process streams across various industries.

2. Technical Specifications

3. Features & Benefits

  • Exceptional Surface Area & Porosity: Creates an extensive network of micro- and mesopores, providing unparalleled adsorption capacity for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and dissolved contaminants.

  • Rapid Adsorption Kinetics: The powdered grade with its very fine particle size maximizes the rate of contaminant removal in emergency treatment processes.

  • High Mechanical Hardness & Long Lifespan (GAC): The coconut shell granular grade is resistant to abrasion and breakage, allowing for repeated backwashing and thermal regeneration.

  • High Purity: Extremely low ash and extractable content makes it ideal for drinking water purification and the food industry.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Water & Wastewater Treatment: Removal of chlorine, odor, taste, agricultural toxins, and recalcitrant organic matter from municipal and industrial water.

  • Food & Beverage Industry: Decolorization of sugar, glucose, and edible oils, and purification of beer and soft drinks.

  • Pharmaceutical Industry: Purification of pharmaceutical intermediates and removal of pyrogens.

  • Air & Gas Purification: Industrial respirator filters, VOC emission control, and gasoline vapor adsorption in vehicle carbon canisters.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This material is non-toxic and non-flammable, but its dust causes mechanical irritation to the eyes and lungs. The Arnico MSDS file is available upon request.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in sealed bags in a dry, cool environment, away from volatile materials and strong oxidizers. Due to its ability to absorb moisture and odors, containers must be completely sealed.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): When decanting and handling, the use of a P2/N95 dust mask and safety goggles is mandatory.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

All Arnico Activated Carbon shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) including Iodine Number, Molasses Number, and precise particle size distribution.

Technical documents for the product Activated Carbon including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
