Diethylene Glycol (DEG)

Diethylene Glycol

“The industrial dehydrator: the powerful, high-boiling glycol for gas processing and resin production.” Arnico’s Diethylene Glycol (DEG) is the industry-standard solution for critical dehydration and solvent applications. Its powerful hygroscopic nature makes it the workhorse for removing water from natural gas, ensuring pipeline integrity, while its solvent properties make it a key raw material for unsaturated polyester resins and industrial coolants. It’s the essential high-boiling glycol for demanding, large-scale industrial processes.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Diethylene Glycol (DEG) is a clear, colorless, viscous, and sweet-tasting liquid used as a high-boiling point industrial solvent and humectant in petrochemical, gas processing, and resin production. This substance plays a critical role in the dehydration of natural gas and is a vital component in various chemical processes.

3. Features & Benefits

  • Ideal Boiling Point & Vapor Pressure: High thermal stability allows for use in natural gas absorption and distillation columns without solvent loss.

  • Exceptional Hygroscopic Power: Rapidly and effectively absorbs water from sour gas streams, preventing the formation of ice-like hydrates in pipelines.

  • Purity & Chemical Stability: Resistant to degradation and oxidation over long thermal cycles, reducing glycol replacement costs.

  • Effective Solvent: High dissolving power for industrial resins and dyes with a controlled evaporation rate.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Oil & Gas Industry: The primary process material for natural gas dehydration (Glycol Dehydration Units) in refineries and offshore platforms.

  • Antifreeze & Heat Transfer Fluids: Formulation of industrial antifreeze and compressor cooling fluids.

  • Resin & Polymer Industry: A raw material in the production of unsaturated polyester resins and polyurethane plasticizers.

  • Chemical Industry: A co-solvent in the production of paints, printing inks, and hydraulic fluids.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This substance is toxic if ingested and can cause kidney damage (unlike MPG, which is safe). Skin and eye contact is irritating. A thorough study of the Arnico MSDS is mandatory before use.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in sealed carbon steel or stainless steel tanks, in a dry, cool place, and away from strong oxidizing agents and heat sources. Due to its hygroscopic nature, tanks must always be kept airtight.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): When decanting and handling, the use of chemical-resistant gloves and safety goggles is mandatory. In case of splashing or ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

All Arnico Diethylene Glycol shipments are accompanied by a complete COA, including a precise GC analysis of purity and the content of Ethylene and Triethylene Glycol impurities.
