Boric Acid (H₃BO₃)

Boric Acid

“The multi-functional mineral: from heat-proof glass to micronutrient fertilizer and safe antiseptics.” Arnico’s Boric Acid is a remarkably versatile, mild Lewis acid derived from natural borax. It is the essential ingredient that creates heat-resistant Pyrex glass, protects crops from boron deficiency, and serves as a gentle yet effective antiseptic. For industries that value multifunctionality, precise purity, and reliable performance, our Boric Acid is a critical raw material.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Boric Acid is a white, crystalline inorganic compound with very mild acidic properties, produced from the reaction of borax with mineral acids. This multi-purpose substance serves as a flame retardant, a raw material in the production of heat-resistant glass (e.g., Pyrex), a boron micronutrient fertilizer, and a mild disinfectant, playing essential roles in the glass, agriculture, and pharmaceutical industries.

2. Technical Specifications

Technical Parameter Industrial / Glass Grade Pharma / Agri Grade Unit
Purity (as H₃BO₃) ≥ 99.5 ≥ 99.9 %
Boron (B) ≥ 17.2 ≥ 17.4 %
Sulfate (SO₄) ≤ 0.05 ≤ 0.01 %
Iron (Fe) ≤ 10 ≤ 5 ppm
Heavy Metals (as Pb) ≤ 20 ≤ 5 ppm
Particle Size (Passing 60 Mesh) ≥ 95 ≥ 98 %

3. Features & Benefits

  • Guaranteed Boron Source: Supplies boron in oxide form to the glass network, multiplying the thermal and chemical resistance of borosilicate glass several times over.

  • Exceptional Pharma Grade Purity: Free from heavy metals and sulfates, which is critical for use in ophthalmic solutions and hygienic detergents.

  • Effective Flame Retardant in Polymers: Releases water at high temperatures and forms a protective glassy layer on the surface of cellulose and polymers.

  • Controlled Solubility in Agriculture: Provides a gradual release of boron in the soil to prevent plant toxicity and ensure a steady supply of this micronutrient.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Glass & Ceramics Industry: The primary material in the production of Pyrex glass, insulation fiberglass, and ceramic glazes.

  • Agriculture Industry: Production of liquid and powder boron fertilizers to prevent hollow heart and black core in fruits like apples and sugar beets.

  • Pharmaceutical & Cosmetic Industry: The active ingredient in eyewash solutions and mild antiseptic lotions.

  • Wood & Textile Industry: A flame retardant in the production of MDF boards and fireproof fabrics.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This substance has low acute toxicity to humans but may be damaging to fertility. Avoid ingestion and prolonged skin contact. Obtain the MSDS file from Arnico.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in sealed bags in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place. It does not easily cake, but high humidity should be avoided.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): When decanting, the use of a dust mask and gloves is recommended.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

All Arnico Boric Acid shipments are provided with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) guaranteeing the boron percentage based on standard titration, to meet the exact needs of the glass and agricultural industries.

Technical documents for the product Boric Acid including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
