Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda - NaOH)

Sodium Hydroxide

“The industrial strength behind soap, paper, and clean water: powerful chemistry in liquid and solid form.” Arnico’s Sodium Hydroxide is the essential, high-purity industrial alkali, available as a 50% liquid solution or solid pearls. It delivers the consistent, powerful reactivity needed for critical processes, from saponification and pH neutralization to kraft pulping and beyond. Produced using modern membrane technology, our mercury-free NaOH stands as the reliable backbone for industries demanding uncompromising quality and performance.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda) is a very strong and the most widely used industrial alkali, supplied as a clear 50% liquid and as white solid granules or pearls. This substance, with its exceptional ability to drive saponification, neutralize acids, and dissolve lignin, is the irreplaceable raw material in the petrochemical, textile, and paper manufacturing industries.

2. Technical Specifications

Technical Parameter Liquid Grade (50%) Solid Grade (Pearls) Unit
Purity (as NaOH) 50.0 ± 0.5 ≥ 99.0 %
Sodium Carbonate (Na₂CO₃) ≤ 0.4 ≤ 0.8 %
Sodium Chloride (NaCl) ≤ 0.05 ≤ 0.2 %
Iron (Fe) ≤ 10 ≤ 30 ppm
Silica (SiO₂) ≤ 40 ≤ 50 ppm
Density (20°C) 1.52 – 1.53 N/A (Solid) g/cm³

3. Features & Benefits

  • Membrane-Grade Production Technology: Guarantees exceptionally high purity, free from mercury and heavy metals.

  • Rapid, Exothermic Dissolution: The heat released during dissolution reduces the energy required for subsequent chemical reactions.

  • Excellent Durability & Stability: The 50% liquid form is the optimal concentration to prevent crystallization at low temperatures and allow easy pumping.

  • Guaranteed Reactivity: Consistent chemical activity in every shipment makes the final product formulation predictable and reliable.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Soap & Detergent Industry: A key component in the manufacturing of bar soaps (reaction with fats) and a degreasing agent in industrial cleaners.

  • Pulp & Paper Industry: Dissolving wood lignin in the Kraft process to produce high-strength paper.

  • Oil & Gas Industry: Regulating drilling mud pH and removing acidic gases like H₂S from natural gas streams.

  • Textile Industry: Mercerizing cotton, which gives the fibers luster, tensile strength, and better dye absorption.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This substance is extremely corrosive, and eye contact leads to permanent damage and blindness. Its reaction with acids and water is intensely exothermic. Obtaining and studying the Arnico MSDS is a prerequisite for working with this product.

  • Storage Conditions (Liquid): In carbon steel tanks with an epoxy coating or 316 stainless steel, at a temperature above 15°C, away from acids and divalent metals. (Solid): In completely dry, moisture-proof bags, away from atmospheric CO₂.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The use of full acid-resistant clothing, PVC gloves, rubber boots, and a face shield/chemical goggles is mandatory for any contact.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

All Arnico Sodium Hydroxide shipments are provided with a COA confirming purity based on ASTM standards.
