Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide) is a strong, versatile alkali, supplied in two physical forms: as a liquid (50% concentration) and as solid flakes (purity ≥ 99%). As an unparalleled industrial base, this substance plays a vital role in pH regulation, acid neutralization, bleaching, and the production of numerous chemical and consumer products, standing as a fundamental pillar of the modern chemical industry.

2. Technical Specifications

Technical Parameter Liquid Grade 50% Flake Grade Unit
Purity (as NaOH) 50.0 ± 0.5 ≥ 99.0 %
Appearance Clear, colorless liquid White flakes
Sodium Chloride (NaCl) ≤ 0.05 ≤ 0.2 %
Sodium Carbonate (Na₂CO₃) ≤ 0.4 ≤ 0.8 %
Iron (Fe) ≤ 10 ≤ 30 ppm
Density (20°C) – Liquid 1.52 – 1.53 N/A (Solid) g/cm³

3. Features & Benefits

  • Unmatched Alkaline Power: The fastest and most cost-effective method for raising pH and executing neutralization and saponification reactions.

  • Two Optimized Supply Forms: Liquid form for easy and safe high-volume dosing; flake form for better transport economics and non-aqueous reactions.

  • Precise Impurity Control: Minimal iron and chloride content to prevent precipitation and contamination in sensitive processes.

  • High Purity: Produced using membrane technology, offering a product free from heavy metals and mercury.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Soap & Detergent Industry: A key component in the saponification reaction of fats for the production of solid and liquid soap.

  • Pulp & Paper Industry: The primary chemical in the Kraft process for dissolving lignin and bleaching wood pulp.

  • Textile Industry: The mercerization process for cotton, enhancing its strength, luster, and dye absorption.

  • Water & Wastewater Treatment: A pH adjuster, a neutralizer for free acids, and a regenerant for ion exchange columns.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This substance is extremely corrosive and hazardous; skin and eye contact cause immediate, severe chemical burns. A detailed study of the Arnico MSDS is mandatory before any handling.

  • Storage Conditions (Liquid 50%): To prevent crystallization, store above +15°C in stainless steel (316) or lined polyethylene tanks, away from acids, and light metals (aluminum, tin, zinc). Freezing must be strictly prevented.

  • Storage Conditions (Flakes): Extremely hygroscopic and absorbs CO₂ from the air. Must be stored in completely sealed bags in a dry, cool place.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The use of full acid-resistant clothing, long neoprene or PVC gloves, rubber boots, a face shield, and chemical goggles is mandatory for any decanting or sampling operation.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

All Arnico Caustic Soda shipments (both liquid and flake) are transported with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) based on serial production number, accurately specifying the concentration, hydroxide, chloride, and carbonate content according to ASTM E291 standards.

Technical documents for the product Caustic Soda including the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Analysis (COA), are available to customers upon request.
