Silicone-Based Defoamer for Petrochemical Processes

Petrochemical Process Defoamer

“Collapsing foam, not performance: precision-engineered for the harshest process environments.” In the extreme temperatures and pressures of petrochemical plants, foam is the enemy of capacity and safety. Arnico’s specialized defoamer is formulated to deliver instant knockdown and long-lasting foam suppression, protecting distillation columns, reactors, and separators from disruption. It’s not just an additive; it’s an insurance policy for your throughput and catalyst integrity.
Description More

1. Product Introduction & Main Application

Arnico’s specialized defoamer is an advanced formulation based on Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and organosilicon compounds, designed for the rapid control and elimination of persistent foam in high-temperature and high-pressure chemical and petrochemical processes. With high dispersibility, even at very low concentrations, it collapses stable foam generated by surfactants and organic substances, preventing operational disruptions in separation units, capacity reduction, and reactor overflow.

3. Features & Benefits

  • Instant Defoaming Power: Extremely high spreading speed that bursts foam bubbles upon immediate contact.

  • Excellent Thermal & Chemical Stability: Resistant to oxidation and degradation at high process temperatures (up to 200°C) and in both acidic and alkaline environments.

  • High Persistence: Prevents foam re-formation for extended periods after dosing, optimizing material consumption.

  • Process Compatibility: Non-reactive with catalysts and final products; does not cause catalyst poisoning in petrochemical operations.

4. Industrial Applications

  • Olefin & Polymer Units: Foam control in distillation columns, scrubbers, and reactors for polyethylene and polypropylene production.

  • Oil & Gas Industry: Defoaming for amine-based gas sweetening units and preventing foam in three-phase separators.

  • Resin & Adhesive Production: Eliminating foam in reactors producing alkyd and acrylic resins.

  • Industrial Wastewater Treatment: Foam control in biological aeration basins and cooling tower outlets.

5. Safety & Handling

  • MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): Prolonged skin and eye contact may be irritating. Please refer to the complete Arnico MSDS for full safety guidance.

  • Storage Conditions: Store at a temperature between +5°C and +40°C, away from frost, direct sunlight, and uncoated metal containers. For the emulsion grade, avoid vigorous agitation that could break the emulsion. Packaging must remain tightly sealed.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The use of safety goggles and chemical-resistant gloves is recommended during decanting and dosing.

6. Quality Assurance & COA

All Arnico defoamer shipments are accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (COA), detailing viscosity, active content, and a functional Knockdown Time performance test. This ensures the product performs according to the critical needs of your process.
